BMW X3 takes game to new level

The new BMW X3 has more cargo and passenger space than ever before!

The BMW X3's fuel economy, performance, practicality and pricing make it the best vehicle in the hottest segment of the luxury market -- small crossover SUVs.

After years as an also-ran to hotshots like the Audi Q5 and the Cadillac SRX, BMW took its game to another level with the new X3 this year. Its clean new design and scalloped sides give the SUV attention-grabbing looks to match the performance of BMW's magnificent 3.0-liter straight-six engine.

The new X3 offers more room and cargo capacity than its predecessor. The X3 xDrive 3.5i model combines 300 horsepower and 300 pound-feet of torque with a very good 26-m.p.g. EPA highway fuel economy rating. A performance-tuned all-wheel drive system, eight-speed automatic transmission, supple suspension and precise steering make this a crossover for enthusiasts, while the comfortable interior provides plenty of space for people and cargo. BMW's iDrive control system keeps improving. The X3's voice-recognition works well with hands-free phones, though less so with the navigation system.

With prices starting at $37,100, plenty of standard equipment and a long list of available features, the X3 is also that rarity: A BMW that can cost less than comparably equipped competitors.
